Often your decision of supporting a sport club get’s questioned only when it is not winning anything. If it wins everything then you have an easy answer.
Digging little deeper on the reasons of supporting any club makes me wonder how it all started. What makes you hook to your favourite xyz sport club to start with.
Is it the place of origin of the club?
Most of Indians who support EPL have never visited the country.
Is it the star players of the club?
Most of the players stay only for a season or two.
Or is it the amazing jersey of the club?
They change every year.
Ship of Theseus is a famous paradox. It is said that, ship of Theseus which was kept in a harbour as museum piece began to rot. Slowly over the time each part got replaced as and when they rot. After a century, every part of the ship had been replaced. So the question is, Is it still ship of Theseus?
As an ardent fan of cricketing club RCB, I wonder what makes me support the club. It does not retain any players from it’s place of origin, neither has it won any cup over the last decade. Yet it is impossible for me to even think of switching my fandom to a different club.
What makes it difficult for you to switch your favourite club. Why can’t a Manchester united fan be a Liverpool supporter. Or if you are a Barcelona FC fan then can your kid be Real Madrid FC fan ? Food for thought.
